SCHOLARHIPS

Dear Friend,

Since 1988 the National Auxiliary has given merit tuition scholarship awards to outstanding incoming Loma Linda University freshman medical students. During these 19 years we have given over $200,000 in scholarships to about 40 men and women students.

To be eligible for a scholarship award the student must have an outstanding academic record as well as demonstrate leadership qualities and community service to others. Financial need is also an important consideration.

Over the years some students who have been eligible for the award have opted to enter other medical school where the tuition is lower and larger scholarships have been available. For some of these students the Auxiliary scholarships have helped offset some of this potential disadvantage and have often been a significant factor in their choice to come to Loma Linda.

Funding for these scholarships is made possible through the interest on the Auxiliary endowment for this project and annual contributions.

This Spring (2007) we granted a scholarship award to a high achieving student who will be entering the freshman class this summer. This student met all of the National Auxiliary criteria for the award, including financial need.

While the Auxiliary scholarships provide financial help to the recipients, in a larger and even more significant way, the scholarships represent the caring and support of the community to these young people learning what it means to be physicians. These awards will also encourage the recipients to respond in kind when they are able to do so.

We appreciate your interest and generous financial support in this important project.

Sincerely,
